Team Airhead / Dry Pak Awarded 2nd place at Red Bull Adventure Race
Team AirHead / Dry Pak made it all the way to the podium at Red Bull's event June 22nd: El Escape de San Lucas, una verdadera aventura on Junme ()
Our sponsored athletes, Esteban Ericksen and his partner finished second in the 140 athlete race that took place in strenuous weather conditions on the central pacific coast of Costa Rica.
Costa Rica has its own little version of Alcatraz: an island in the middle of the gulf of Nicoya that used to be a prison long time ago. The place is no longer working but it has become a tourist attraction. Well, what happened is Red Bull recently put together an adventure race where 70 teams (2 people each) ran away from the prison along a 10k mountain trail all the way to an isolated beach at the other side of the island. From there competitors paddled open waters across the gulf of Nicoya to finish the race at Puntarenas downtown!
The first place team came in just about 300 feet in front of team Airhead / Dry Pak to win a pass to the Wings for Life World Run 2016, Peru, (http://www.wingsforlifeworldrun.com/pe/en/) all expenses covered!
Esteban said "the Dry Pak case for the GPS ended up being a key part of our equipment since neither the trail nor the gulf crossing had any kind of marking to guide the competitors."
They are looking forward for the event again next year!
