Ten Fun Ways to Beat the Mid Summer Heat

Summer is a busy time for many people, and the summer heat can be quite unforgiving. So, it’s always nice to have some good ideas of games and activities to do in order to keep cool during the hot summer months. Whether you plan a trip to the beach or stay in the comfort of your own backyard, any one of these 10 fun ideas will help you to beat the relentless heat.

1. Plan a Trip to the Beach and Try Water Sports

Feeling the warm sand under your feet and the light cool breeze coming off of the water can be an amazing feeling in the summer. You can cool off by taking a dip in the water, or you could try wakeboarding, waterskiing, or wakesurfing. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, there are wakeboards and skis to fit everyone’s needs. You could even find somewhere to take lessons with a group!

2. Make a Homemade Slip and Slide

You don’t need to worry about the fuss of heading to a water park. You can always design a water slide in your backyard. The only things you need are plastic sheeting, or a tarp, and weights to hold it down. You could even use pool noodles to add edges to the slide. Simply add running water from a hose and spend the day having fun and staying cool!

3. Relax in the Water on a Float, Lounge, Or Hammock

Let your troubles slip away as you lounge across the water on any one of these inflatable water floats. There's a huge variety of water floats available. Many come equipped with cup holders and even storage compartments for your sun tan lotion and other sundries. There are inflatable floats and islands designed for a single person or a group of people. You also have the option of floating on the water or suspended in the water based on your preference. Some pool floats have fold out foot rests that keep your legs afloat, others have high backrests providing back support. No matter which kind you choose, relaxing the day away in the pool or at the beach on one of these floats will promise a cool, calm summer day.

4. Play a Game of Splash Golf

This is an easy and fun game to keep cool in the summer. The only things that you need are sponges, water, buckets, and numbers. To play the game you simply number the buckets, fill them with water and throw a sponge into each bucket. For however many throws it takes for you to make it into the bucket, you will have to squeeze the sponge full of water over your head that many times.

5. Play Inflatable Water Games

There are many different inflatable water games available. You could get an inflatable bouncer. They are basically a trampoline that is weighed down into the water, that allows for a day of fun jumping on the water’s surface. Some other water games you could try are a volleyball net that sets up over your pool, Lob The Blob. It’s the classic game of Cornhole, but more exciting because it’s on the water! Lastly inflatable beverage pong has become a very popular game among college kids and adults too.

6. Play Water Baseball

This is a fun and exciting game to play whether you are an adult or a child. Simply fill up a bunch of water balloons, get a baseball bat, and let the willing batters get in line to take a swing. The water balloon will break, covering them in a shower of cooling water.

7. Use Water Sprayers and Have a Water Gun Fight

Having a water gun fight can be just as exhilarating as it is cooling. There are tons of different options available like water bazookas, guns, and pistols and they are all simple to use. This is a great way to get soaked while having a blast. Pick some water sprayers up, get a group of people together and let the war begin!

8. Make a Water Piñata

This is one of the easiest games to make. Simply use a couple plastic shopping bags, fill them with water and hang them on a line. After they are up, get the bat out and let the people start swinging. Another way you could make it is to fill the shopping bags with water balloons instead. Either ways are fun easy games everyone will love being able to cool off while playing.

9. Go Riding on a Towable Water Tube

You can’t go wrong with going water tubing to cool off. It is an energizing experience guaranteed to keep you refreshed on those hot summer days. You can buy water tubes in all different shapes and sizes. You can even get tubes that can hold up to 6 riders! When you are done with the excitement, you can simply relax and float atop the water.

10. Have a Water Balloon Fight

You, of course, can’t forget the classic of a good old fashioned water balloon fight. It is a cheap and easy idea and it is fun for people of all ages. You can make up a bunch of fun games with water balloons, all promising a cool and enjoyable summer day. You could even fill the balloons with a couple drops of food coloring, have everyone wear white shirts, and watch the colors explode with every balloon toss.
